Method

Why auctions. An asking price is an opinion; a hammer price is a fact. Auction results are public, dated, and verifiable — the only price data this room treats as evidence.

Small samples, said out loud. These cars trade thinly. A solid line requires at least three sales per half-year. Models with five or more recorded sales carry a thin curve drawn through their individual results — open points mark half-years below the threshold. Fewer than five sales: watchlist, with every recorded sale one tap away. Every tile states its n.

Sold means sold. Curves use hammered sales only. Reserve-not-met bids and post-auction deals are on file and drive the sell-through rate, but they never enter a curve.

The watchlist. Every model on it is tracked and every recorded sale is one tap away. A model joins the charts the day it clears the threshold, not before.

Two markets & sources

US and Europe are different markets. They move in parallel at different heights — the US trades hotter and close to its asking prices; Europe hammers lower while dealers ask well above. Blending them would price a market that does not exist, so we never do.

Currency. Raw results stay in the currency of sale. For cross-market comparison we convert at fixed mid-rates of 1.13 USD and 0.82 GBP per euro — coarse by design, disclosed here, identical across the page.

Venues. Auctions: Bring a Trailer, Cars & Bids, Collecting Cars, RM Sotheby's, Car & Classic. Asking data: 9,749 current listings via mobile.de, AutoScout24 and the US portals (Cars.com and others via AutoTempest), deduplicated by listing URL — shown only as today's diamond markers, never as history.

Asia. No reliable public auction depth exists — most Asian trade runs through dealers and private channels. We state that rather than fake it.
